I am finding out that there is a little sub-culture of full time bike riders in Midland. Of course, most of them are either old or crazy... you know, my kind of people... so I can't wait to find more. (Kidding, of course. They seem to be neither old nor crazy. Older might be a more appropriate word. ) Today on the way into Kroger I saw two older riders, so I had to stop and ask one a question. She had those metal saddle bag basket things that I want. I asked her if it made it more difficult to ride, and she said yes, and that she usually has to keep her bike in high gear when they are loaded down. I said that I was fine with that, because I could use a little more resistance.
I found out some cool things from them. Did you know that you can ride your bike to the ice arena (not even sure where that is... I will have to find out) and then catch a bus to Bay City or Saginaw? Neither did I. They also told me that the Pere Marquete Rail-Trail has expanded! It used to be just (ha!) 30 miles, but now there is a tunnel or something that extended it even further. I would be quite happy if I could do the 30 miles (60 total) so I am not interested in the expansion... yet.
